Investment Spotlight: DeepTrust, Cohort 6

Introducing DeepTrust, a platform for security teams to protect against social engineering, voice phishing, and deepfakes

Investments

Advances in AI are creating new fraud risks for companies to manage.

DeepTrust helps security teams protect their company’s voice and video communication channels, like Zoom. These channels are at higher risk from social engineering, voice phishing, and deepfakes.

What are these risks?

  • Deepfakes are AI-generated audio, video, and images that resemble real content.
    • In 2024, 49% of businesses worldwide experienced deepfake fraud [Source] and reported losses of $450,000 [Source].
  • Social engineering involves manipulating individuals into sharing confidential information or granting unauthorized access to computer systems.
    • Social engineering has caused 10% of security incidents and 17% of data breaches [Source].
  • Voice phishing is a form of social engineering conducted over the phone.
    • Scammers use persuasive or deceptive techniques to trick individuals into revealing personal information. Phishing scams have caused a reported $4.9 million per attack [Source].

How DeepTrust works:

  • The platform integrates into voice and video services, like Zoom.
  • When an AI-powered attacker enters a call with the user, the DeepTrust platform flags it as a security threat.
  • Notifications are sent via internal communication channels, such as Slack, with instructions to the employee on how to proceed during the call.
